Sue J. McQueen
1936 - 2011
Sue J. McQueen of Payson, went to be with the Lord on June 21, 2011.
She was born July 22, 1936 in Springfield, Mo. to Emmett and Jennell (Small) Comstock.
Raised in the Midwest, she graduated from Pittsburg State University at Pittsburg, Kan.
Upon moving to Phoenix, Mrs. McQueen worked for the Salt River Project, retiring after 20 years.
Husband, Robert B. McQueen; children, Sandra Vlk of Phoenix, Gregg Smith and wife Sarah of San Gabriel, Calif., and stepson, Jason Comstock of Corpus Christi, Texas survive her.
Along with her sister, Carol Purkiewicz and husband John of Greenbrier, Ark.; Mrs. McQueen’s surviving grandchildren are Braden, Bryant and Breanna Vlk; also surviving are three great-grandchildren. Her brother Rex preceded her in death.
“Mrs. McQueen was a gentle woman, quick to laugh and quick to look for the good in everyone she met. Her smile lit up a room and drew others to her. It was the beauty of that smile that captured the heart of Bob, her husband,” writes her family.
Though the time was short, their marriage was filled with great love, laughter and the sharing of God’s love with others. They traveled, hiked and held hands at sunsets. She loved art, music, caring for others, and she excelled in all three.
“Sue will be remembered as the heart and encourager of her family and friends,” her family adds.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 27 at Mountain Bible Church, 302 E. Rancho Road. A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m., Sunday, June 26 at Messinger Payson Funeral Home, 901 S. Westerly Road.
