Theodore (Tobe) Cogswell, 93, passed away March 9, 2011 at his home in Payson.
He was born Dec. 24, 1917 in Spokane, Wash., one of three sons of James and Jean Cogswell.
He graduated from South Pasadena High School in California. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, Mr. Cogswell enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and saw service in the South Pacific for 26 months. He was the recipient of the Silver Star and Purple Heart medals.
Upon returning to the United States, he married Roberta Peterson in New Britain, Conn. on July 26, 1944.
In 1950 the couple moved with their two young children to Phoenix.
Mr. Cogswell worked in the printing industry and as a professional photographer until his retirement in 1980 when he and Roberta moved to Payson.
He was member of the Elks Lodge, Lions Club of Payson, Marine Corps League Detachment #928 and a generous contributor to many community activities and organizations.
Over the years he had traveled and hiked extensively in Arizona and he and Roberta traveled to all 50 states and many foreign countries, but he was always happiest to come home to the place he loved most.
Survivors include Roberta, his beloved wife of 66 years; son, Brent (Diana) Cogswell; daughter, Roberta (Thomas) Sorensen; grandson, Michael (Betsey) Sorensen; granddaughter, Cara (Michael) Becker; and four great-grandsons.
A Celebration of Life service is pending and will be announced.
