Edward Michael Dick
April 10, 1939 - March 13, 2011
Edward Michael Dick, 71, of Payson, died March 13, 2011 of complications from COPD. He was born April 10, 1939 in Phoenix to Thomas Michael Dicks and Helen Beatrice Dick.
He attended Arizona State University, Grand Canyon Bible College and served in the 158th Infantry Unit — the Bushmasters.
Mr. Dick was director of agriculture and horticulture for Arizona and fire chief for the Puerco Valley Fire District. He served as president of the Payson Lions Club and was a member of the Payson Elks Lodge.
He had a tremendous faith in God and a love for his country that he shared with his children, grandchildren and anyone who would lend him an ear. His love for the outdoors was obvious as that was usually where he could be found, particularly grooming his gardens or those at Senior Circle.
He taught his children that the windshield is larger than the rearview mirror for a reason ... That what is ahead of us is a lot more important than what is behind us.
His parents, Thomas M. Dick and Helen B. Dick, and his brother, Rudyard M. Dick, preceded him in death.
Mr. Dick is survived by his wife, Susan Dick; son, Kevin M. Dick; daughter, Michelle L. Spicer; and three grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 16 at Calvary Chapel, 1103 N. Beeline Hwy., Payson.
