Bertie V. Brice
1920 - 2011
Bertie V. Brice, 91, entered into rest May 2, 2011. She was born April 4, 1920.
Mrs. Brice was a longtime Payson resident and the co-founder of the original Arizona Milk Transport. She was a past president and member of the Glendale Women’s Club, and a board member of Arizona Cactus-Pine Girl Scout Council.
She was a Sunday school teacher, chairwoman of the Glendale Arts Show, and a committee chairwoman for the creation of Thunderbird Park.
Mrs. Brice is a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
She had a fondness for growing roses and gardening. Her hobbies included playing bridge and beating her grandkids in many card games, collecting winnings at Mazatzal Casino, traveling, baking wedding cakes, and she loved working puzzles in her later years.
Survivors include her daughter, Ginger Sinanovic; daughter, Ivy Downard and husband Robert Downard; and son, Gene Brice and wife Marvis Peck-Brice of Idaho; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Brice was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton “CT” Brice; her parents; 11 siblings and a grandson.
A service celebrating Mrs. Brice’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 7 at West Resthaven Cemetery and Funeral Home, 6450 W. Northern Ave., in Glendale. Visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the service. A reception will be held following the service at Northwest Community Church, 16615 N. 43rd Ave., Phoenix.
