Borge Andersen, 83, of Longmont, Colo., went to be with his Lord on May 12, 2011. He died of complications due to heart and kidney disease.
He was born March 24, 1923 in Aarhus, Denmark and immigrated to the United States in 1947.
In his early 20s, Mr. Andersen served in the Danish Merchant Marines and after becoming an American citizen in 1953, he served with honor in the U.S. Air Force and the Air National Guard.
Mr. Andersen married Barbara Knox in 1951, and they had two children. The family relocated many times across the United States during Mr. Andersen’s career as an electrical engineer with General Electric. He was especially proud of his work as a team member and pioneer of reconnaissance satellites, supporting the development of the Discoverer (Corona) satellite and first successful missions. He later joined the Missile Systems Division of Hughes Aircraft, where he retired in 1989.
During his retirement, Mr. Andersen resided in Arizona and Colorado. He enjoyed carpentry and was a master craftsman. He also enjoyed his morning coffee group in Payson, and caring for the family pets.
He survived a bout with cancer at age 66.
Mr. Andersen is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Knox Andersen of Longmont, Colo.; daughter, Kathleen Marie Jacobus of Lafayette, Colo.; son, Robert Mark Andersen and granddaughter, Morgan Kristine Andersen, both of Los Angeles, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
A memorial service was held May 27, 2011 in Longmont, Colo. Interment through the Neptune Society will be at the Elmvale Cemetery in Woodstock, Conn.
