John Jr. K. Hodson
John K. Hodson Jr., 78, of Laramie, Wyo. died Nov. 5, 2011 at his home surrounded by family and friends.
He was born in 1933 in Urbana, Ill. and after serving in the U.S. Navy, married the love of his life, Janet “Jan” Royse of Champaign, Ill. in 1956.
The couple, seeking adventure and education, headed west. They spent time in Illinois, Idaho, Germany, Washington, Canada, Wyoming, Colorado and Arizona, but John loved Wyoming most of all, and spent the majority of his life in Wyoming.
After retiring, he proudly served as a volunteer certified sheriff’s deputy for Gila County in Payson. He achieved his dream of dying with a bucking horse on his license plate again after returning to Laramie in 2007.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jan of Laramie; his daughters, Christa (Bill) Branch of Laramie; Melita (John) McBride of Ogden, Utah; and grandchildren, Danny and Nathan Branch and Tessa, JD, Quinn and Colton McBride; his sister, Sherrill Vliet of Flatville, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
A private family gathering rather than public services was held in Mr. Hodson’s honor per his request.
Donations in his memory can be made to the Laramie Elks Lodge.
