Robert Sr. Sertich
1930 - 2011
Robert Sertich Sr., 81, died Nov. 14, 2011, at the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center in Phoenix, Ariz. He was born May 16, 1930 in Bisbee, Ariz., to Lucy and Luke Sertich. He attended Bisbee High School and joined the U.S. Air Force almost immediately upon graduating in 1947. He served his country for 14 years, being discharged honorably and as a disabled veteran.
While serving in England he met his wife, Pat Hale. They were married in England in 1957 and raised their four children in Bisbee, where he worked for the Copper Queen Mine after leaving the service. He moved his family to Phoenix in 1970 and he retired in Payson in 1998.
At 6’ 5”, he was affectionately known as Big Bird to his friends.
Mr. Sertich is survived by his former wife, Pat Hale; his children, Karen, Kelli, Kim (Ken) and Robert, Jr.; his sister, Ann (Bob) Kerr; his nephew, Chris (Janet) Lutich; and numerous friends in Payson and Phoenix.
The family will hold a small private service. Donations may be made in his memory to the American Legion Tonto Rim, AZ Post 69, 709 E. Highway 260, Payson, AZ 85541.
