Robert “Bob” Hansen
Robert “Bob” Hansen, 84, of Pine, passed away Aug. 16, 2012 at a Hospice House in Mesa. Born in Los Angeles and raised in San Francisco, the lure of the sea led him to join the Merchant Marine in World War II at the age of 16, and later to be a member of the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, where he served on Crash Rescue Boats, rescuing pilots downed in the sea in Korea.
Following his military career he moved his family to Mesa where he was employed by Motorola for 15 years. During this time he coached Little League baseball and was a youth soccer referee. After his second retirement he spent countless years as a volunteer at Mesa Lutheran Hospital, then Payson Regional Medical Center after moving to the mountains of Pine. He was a proud member of the Pine Kiwanis and the Payson Military Honor Guard, where he served as long as he was able.
He will be missed by his wife of 46 years, Agnes (Aggie); sons, Steven and Lars (Lisa); daughters, Jill (Bruce) Barteau and Larissa (Mike) Dvorak; 12 wonderful grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Mr. Hansen’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 15 at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Hwy. 260 in Payson. Donations in his memory may be made to Banner Alzheimer’s Foundation, 2025 N. Third St., Suite 250, Phoenix, AZ 85004 or Hospice of the Valley Arbor House, 6063 E. Arbor Ave, Mesa, AZ 85206.
