John Stephen Cline
1936 - 2012
John Stephen Cline, 76, of Tonto Basin, died Dec. 8, 2012 in Scottsdale. He was born Dec. 27, 1936 in Phoenix, the only child of “Doc” Benjamin Cline and Dorothy Herman Wells.
He was raised in Tonto Basin and he and his family have been ranching there for the last six generations.
Mr. Cline is survived by his two sons, Chris Cline and Mark Cline; Chris’ wife, Jeannie Morris Cline; his five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cline was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene S. Starks Cline; his second wife, Jean Ann Jones Cline; and his parents, Doc and Dorothy Cline.
He was a founding member and president of the Gila County Cattle Growers Association, a member of the Mesa Varmint Callers, and a member and one time president of the Bird Busters of Payson Inc. He shot in the Senior Olympics Skeet Shoot at the Fort McDowell Club and placed in the top 10 twice. He was also an avid hunter and an excellent marksman.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 15 at the Tonto Basin Elementary School.
