Joanne K. Sanden
Joanne K. Sanden passed to be with her Lord on Nov. 23, 2012 at Rim Country Health Center in Payson, at the age of 82.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Grant E. Sanden (January 1999).
She was the beloved and devoted mother of Christine Kurtz (Dexter, Mich.), Bernard Sanden (Gilbert, Ariz.), Lori Sanden (Davison, Mich.), Eric Sanden (River Falls, Wis.) and David Sanden (still born-1965). Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Brian Grigsby, Melanie Kurtz, Ryan Sanden, Danielle Kurtz, Brittonya Sanden and David Kurtz.
Mrs. Sanden was born July 28, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated in 1948 from West Technical High School in Cleveland. She married Grant on Sept. 9, 1951 and devoted her life to raising four children and caring for her husband in their Dearborn Heights, Mich. home.
She worked nearly a decade as a nursing assistant in a Dearborn Heights convalescent center.
Joanne and Grant moved to the small mountain community of Payson in 1992 to enjoy full retirement in Arizona.
Watching baseball was one of her favorite past-times. Along with her brother, Bob, she cheered the Cleveland Indians to the World Championship in 1948 as a high school senior. She would often take her children to Tiger Stadium in Detroit and, after moving to Arizona, became a loyal Diamondbacks fan.
Mrs. Sanden enjoyed the climate and fresh air of Payson where she spent many hours in and around her neighborhood, visiting neighbors, feeding birds, and taking her beloved dogs for walks.
She had been a longtime member of Ponderosa Bible Church of Payson. She enjoyed a few close friends in her community who shared that she was a very dear, special person. Her faith led her to commit her final years and hours longing to be in God’s presence.
Mrs. Sanden will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered by all who have known her.
A memorial/commemorative is in the planning stages to be held around Mother’s Day, 2013. For updated information, contact Bernard Sanden at firstname.lastname@example.org.
