Kenneth Russell, retired vocational auto shop teacher and World War II Marine Corps veteran, peacefully passed into the presence of his Lord Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012 with his family at his side.
In late 2007, Mr. Russell and his wife Joanne made Payson their year-round home. He built his summer cabin home here in Payson in 1986.
They were active in Ponderosa Bible Church and he enjoyed helping folks fix their cars, traveling with Joanne, participating in church activities, being involved with the Marine Corps veterans group, and visiting his family.
As a Marine Field Music First Class and rifle sharpshooter, Mr. Russell served in various headquarter sections in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
For 30 years, he taught in the Phoenix Union High School District at South Mountain, Camelback and Phoenix Union high schools.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Selvey; sons, Rick of San Diego, Calif. and Gary of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Carol Smith Russell.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 8 at Ponderosa Bible Church, 1800 N. Beeline Hwy., Payson, Ariz.
Friends of Ken and Joanne are invited to share in celebrating Ken’s life. The family requests donations be made to the Ponderosa Bible Church Fund.
