Douglas Ray Belcher
1952 - 2011
Douglas Ray Belcher, 59, died peacefully with his family at his side, on Dec. 27, 2011.
He was born Nov. 27, 1952 in Phoenix, Ariz. The family moved to the Payson area in the 1960s and built a cabin in Bear Flats, which remained dear to his heart.
Mr. Belcher owned an auto mechanic business in Star Valley for 23 years. He remained in that trade until his ALS diagnosis in 2010. He loved being outdoors: fishing, camping and enjoying nature. He was a great friend and father who was loved, admired and respected. We will all remember his stories and the way he told them with such enthusiasm. In his final days he found comfort in the word of God, and going home to be with his Savior.
He is survived by his daughter, Devin Maebe; son, Jesse Belcher; mother, LaVerne Belcher; brother, Roy Belcher; sister, Lydia Belcher and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Danovan Roy Belcher. Despite the difficult diagnosis of ALS at a young age, he lived out his life with courage, dignity and love. At his request there will be no services, however donations in his memory may be made to ALS Chapter Phoenix, (602) 297-3800 or Hospice Compassus Flagstaff, (928) 556-1500.
