Gertrude Catherine Vance
Gertrude Catherine Vance, formerly of Payson, Ariz., passed away at 99 years young on Dec. 15, 2011 in Anchorage, Alaska.
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1912, she graduated from Ursuline College with honors. After college, she worked in a VA hospital.
In the early 1950s, Gertrude met and married Ben L. Vance in Tucson where they began a family.
They raised their family in Phoenix, and later retired to Deer Creek, Ariz., outside of Payson.
Mrs. Vance was very active in the Catholic Church, first at St. Theresa’s and then at St. Philip’s.
She is survived by her children, Maureen Vance Parker, Theresa Ann Vance and Rita Vance Geller of Alaska, and Virginia Vance Roseberry of Virginia; sons-in-law, Bill Parker, Greg Geller and Eddie Roseberry; grandsons, Cory Parker of California, Ryan and Daniel Geller of Alaska, and Benjamin Roseberry of Virginia; great-grandsons, Daniel and Dawson of Alaska.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Ben; sister, Mary de Solenni of California; and brother, George Arnold of Phoenix.
Gertrude loved any outdoor activity and was always ready to go. She could make the sun shine on a rainy day. She touched many lives with her grace and spirit, and will be sorely missed, writes her family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 21 at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 511 S. St. Phillips St., Payson, Ariz.
