Opal Jennings Jones
July 27, 1919 - June 25, 2012
Opal Jennings Jones of Payson, formerly of Safford, passed away June 25, 2012. She was born July 27, 1919 in Bisbee.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jim Jones and daughter, Judy Jones. She leaves behind her daughter, Charlotte (Jerry) Farr of Payson; and her son, Jack (Gloria) Jones of the Philippines. She also leaves behind grandchildren, Valerie Farr, Rebecca Farr, Sean (Sheri) Jones, Shiela Jones, Jack (Christina) Jones, Kimberly (Anthony) Vereen, Skyler Jones and SaraBeth Jones; nine great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Jones lived in Safford for 46 years before moving to Payson where she resided for the past eight years.
She was an outstanding hunter and fisherperson — Riggs Lake on Mt. Graham being her favorite fishing area. She sold Avon for many years in the Gila Valley and won many honors. She worked for Gila Laundry, Brown’s Café and the Top Hat. She also helped teach hunter and gun safety.
Mrs. Jones also enjoyed quilting, sewing and other handcrafts and participated in many craft fairs around the state.
A private ceremony will be held at a future time. She will be missed by many, her family writes.
