Helen Berry of Tucson, Ariz. passed away on Feb. 28, 2012. Mrs. Berry was a 25-year resident of Payson prior to moving back to her favorite city of Tucson.
She was born August 15, 1921 in Duluth, Minn. to Elmer and Signe Erickson. After high school, she moved west and settled in the Old Pueblo. While starting her new life she met Donald Berry at an Army dance. They were married March 3, 1945. They made their home in Tucson and had three children.
In 1979 Donald retired from the U.S. Postal Service and they moved to Payson. Mrs. Berry fit right in with the small town atmosphere and made many friends.
She was active with the Payson Women’s Golf Association where she won many tournaments; she played cards; visited Laughlin, Nev. and the Mazatzal Casino; made numerous quilts, afghans and other crafts, which she gave to family and friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She recently just met her only great-grandson.
She will be missed by all, writes her family.
She is survived by her sons, Mick Berry of Rapid City, S.D. and Donald Berry of Tucson Ariz.; daughter, Cindy (Ron) Weeks of Mechanicsburg, Ill. and Payson, Ariz. Also surviving are her four grandchildren, Jason (Leanne) Weeks of Avondale, Ariz., Amanda (Brent) Stokes of Chandler, Ariz., Elizabeth Berry of Bullhead City, Ariz. and Michael Berry of Las Vegas, Nev.; and great-grandson, Colin Stokes of Chandler, Ariz.
Mrs. Berry was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her brother, Donald Erikson; and her parents.
In accordance with Mrs. Berry’s wishes there will be no services and cremation rights were accorded. Her ashes will be scattered in South Dakota at a later date. Donations in her name may be made to Hospice Compassus of Payson or Casa de la Luz Hospice in Tucson.
Angel Valley Funeral Home in Tucson is in charge of the arrangements.
