Martha Ann Tod
December 20, 1927 - March 1, 2012
Martha Ann Tod was born Dec. 20 1927 in Nogales, Ariz. She passed away March 1, 2012 in Payson, Ariz.
Martha was a teacher in Phoenix, Paradise Valley and Springerville, Ariz. Martha attended Nogales High, where she was a member of the honor society and graduated cum laude in 1948.
She attended University of Arizona, and was in the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She graduated with a bachelor’s of science degree. Martha attended Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University for her post-graduate studies.
Martha was a past president of Cocopah P.T.A. She was teacher of the year, at Round Valley Elementary School in 1985.
She was a member of the Arizona Archaeology Society, Greer Civic Club, and the Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities. She was in the 2005 “Who’s Who in America.”
With her husband, James William Tod Sr., she built and ran Antler Ridge rental cabins in Greer, Ariz. for 21 years.
Martha lived her life to the fullest, and raised five boys. She was most proud of her family and her love of God. She enjoyed the outdoors, and never stopped learning. She took classes into her 70s.
Martha had a home in Clarkdale, Ariz. and a cabin in Greer, Ariz.
“Martha will be missed and always remembered for the kind and loving, person that she was. She touched many lives, and the world is a better place because she was here,” writes her family.
Martha is survived by her husband, James W. Tod Sr.; her sons, James W. Tod Jr., William J. Tod and wife Pam, Robert T. Tod, John M. Tod and fiancee Sharon, Gerald J. Tod and fiancee Tara. She leaves behind eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one on the way.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., March 24 at the Valley View Bible Church, 4222 East Lincoln Drive in Paradise Valley.
