Robert Belknap Markey

Robert Belknap Markey of Show Low, Navajo County, Ariz. passed away peacefully March 9, 2012 at his home in Show Low. He was 95. Mr. Markey was born the youngest of six children to the late Irwin Belknap and Della E. (Weston) Markey on Aug. 10, 1916 in Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio.
He served and earned his wings as an officer in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He continued to pursue his passion for flying and maintained his pilot’s license for more than 50 years.
He retired after 38 years as an administrator with Ohio Bell Telephone Company after starting the Red Barons flying club for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company employees.
He was a dedicated family man and spent many vacations visiting and traveling with his loved ones. He enjoyed his last 15 years as an active resident of Payson, Ariz., leaving many friends at the Majestic Rim Independent Living Community.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Caroline Jane Markey, after 58 years of marriage.
Mr. Markey is survived by three of his four adult children and his seven grandchildren.
Private memorial services will be held.
