George Warren Phillips
February 23, 1926 - March 23, 2012
George Warren Phillips, living in the Payson area for the last 23 years, passed away March 23, 2012, at the age of 86.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Dottie) Phillips.
Mr. Phillips was born Feb. 23, 1926 in Galveston, Texas. Known as the “Grandfather of Alaska Oil” — he spent 35 years drilling and was one of the first on the Kenai River with a motorized boat.
Mr. Phillips was a World War II Navy veteran, Shriner and Mason. Alaskan fishing was his passion.
He leaves behind three stepchildren by his wife Dottie Phillips, Vickie (George) Randall, Carl (Val) Ellis and Jenny Winton; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services will be private.
