1919 - 2012
Helen Schuessler passed away peacefully April 19, 2012 — her 93rd birthday. Mrs. Schuessler was a former resident of Majestic Rim Apartments in Payson, but more recently had resided in Phoenix where she enjoyed her grandkids and great-grandkids.
According to her family, Mrs. Schuessler was an avid crocheter. She’ll be fondly remembered through the many blankets she gave freely to friends and family. She’d ask you what your favorite colors were and before you knew it, you were the proud owner of her next exquisite masterpiece!
She was born April 19, 1919 in Chicago to Mary and Paul Gofron. She married Herbert Schuessler in 1948, giving up her job as a floor supervisor at Schuessler Knitting Mills to raise four children. According to her daughter Liz, she was a mother to many more friends that her children brought home over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Gofron; sisters-in-law; son-in-law, Bill Schmitt; and husband.
She is survived by her brother, Chester Gofron; sister, Dorothy (George) Ott; daughters, Sally (Harry) Abbey, Mary Lou (James) Spacek and Liz (Alan) Nordquist; son, Tom (Pam) Schuessler; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 2 at St. James Catholic Church, 19640 N. 35th Avenue in Glendale, Ariz. Inurnment will be at St. Lucas Cemetery in Chicago in the fall.
