Wheeler L. Murray
Wheeler L. “Pat” Murray, 84, passed away April 19, 2013 in Phoenix.
She lived in Arizona for more than 30 years and moved to Payson in 1991 from Mesa.
Born in Rockingham, N.C., she worked in the banking industry until 1953, when she met Charles E. Murray in the military in March 1953; they married later that year in September.
Their military marriage took them to places like Hawaii, Thailand, Germany and Japan, where they adopted two children. They returned to the states in 1959.
Mrs. Murray did volunteer work with the American Legion, the Moose Lodge and the Chamber of Commerce. She loved playing bridge, as she did at the Payson Womans Club for 13 years and with the Elks Bridge Club for 10 years.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother and her husband, Lt. Col. Charles E. Murray.
Mrs. Murray leaves behind her son, Gary Wayne (Becky) Murray of San Diego, Calif.; daughter, Lisa Ann (Craig) Luketich of Mesa; as well as five grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Survivors also include her sister Ann Elliott of Fort Mill, S.C. and her friend and sister by love, Sarah Payne of Charlotte, N.C.
