Wyatt Douglas Althoff, 26, passed away Aug. 17, 2013, in a boating accident on Roosevelt Lake. He was born Oct. 6, 1986, in Tucson.
Wyatt is survived by his father, Brent (Marianne) Althoff of Payson; his mother, Linda (Casey) Smith of Gilbert; his loving girlfriend, Kelsey Early, daughter of Scott and Jerri Early, of Maricopa; and grandparents Ken and Nancy Althoff of Payson, Zelma Ann (David) Homan of Gatesville, Texas, and Bob and Jessie Miller of Oracle.
Wyatt is also survived by many aunts and uncles, Greg (Susan) Althoff, Robyn Althoff, and Bo (Heather) Althoff, all of Payson, Mary (Bill) Sturgeon of Taylor, Kevin (Susan) Althoff of Crawford, Texas, Jacqueline (John) Smith of Apache Junction, Judy (Jeff) Tujetsch of Aliquippa, Pa. and Alan (Stella) Miller of Oracle; as well as 17 first cousins.
There was a very special place in Wyatt’s heart for Joe and Shelly Brown of Tonto Basin, and their children, Trevor “TJ” and Chancy, whom Wyatt considered his second family.
Wyatt was born into rodeo and he was a natural, winning countless rodeos and championships.
After graduating from Canyon del Oro High School in Oro Valley, he went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural economics and business from New Mexico State University in 2010. During his time at NMSU, he met Kelsey Early, the love of his life. Wyatt and Kelsey made their home in San Tan Valley, and were preparing for their future together. At the time of his death, Wyatt was still pursuing his rodeo dreams and was also employed as a field service engineer at Tokyo Electron in Phoenix.
A celebration of Wyatt’s life will take place at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 24 at Burrell’s Arena, 14155 N. Luckett Road in Marana. The family asks that attendees not wear black, as this is a celebration of Wyatt’s amazing life. Cowboy Up and Ride.
