Sam Locker, born March 5, 1936 in Crossroads, N.M., passed away peacefully with family by his side at home in Mesa del Caballo on Jan. 31, 2013 at the age of 76.
Mr. Locker was a volunteer fireman and helped start the Mesa del Caballo volunteer fire department, which is now known as the Houston Mesa Fire Department.
Before Mr. Locker retired, he was in construction. He built and helped build numerous homes in Payson.
Mr. Locker is survived by his wife, Vera, who he was married to for 35 years; brother, Harold (Olivia) Locker of Texas; sister, Vicki (Hank) Golomberk of California; mother-in-law, Mary Sawicky of Payson; brother-in-law, Stephen Sawicky Sr. of Payson; sister-in-law, Marie Lavista of Payson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and all of his many special and dear friends.
His parents, Ivan and Irene Locker; and sister, Wanda Smith; preceded him in death.
A memorial will be held for Mr. Locker at the Shoofly Ruins, which is on the Houston Mesa Road past Mesa del at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23. For directions call (928) 474-2676.
