1923 - 2012
Mrs. Dean Standridge, of Payson, passed away Dec. 26, 2012 at the age of 89. She was born March 16, 1923 to the late Edbert Peairson and Cleo Timmons-Peairson. She was affectionately known to her family as Dede.
At the age of 2 her mother passed away. She was raised by her grandparents on a farm in Oklahoma, where she learned about hard work and the meaning of family.
She met and married Acy W. Standridge on Jan. 3, 1941, a career Army man who served in World War II and the Korean War. She was the perfect warrior’s wife having served in at least 18 duty stations, including three years in Austria right after World War II. Mrs. Standridge prided herself on being able to relocate overnight and have her home set up, including curtains hung and dinner on the table by the time her husband got home.
Dean and Acy had two daughters, Darlene and Nina Carlene, who was stillborn. Mrs. Standridge and daughter Darlene spent most of 1954 and 1955 waiting in California for Acy’s return from the Korean War. She moved back to Oklahoma to be near family when her husband was redeployed to Germany in late 1955. Capt. Standridge died in Germany in February 1956.
Mrs. Standridge and her daughter again moved back to Southern California, where she spent the next several years supporting her daughter’s education. After college, Darlene wed, and in 1962 and 1964, Darlene blessed her mother with two granddaughters, Elayne Dean and Laura Jean.
Besides being a homemaker and mother, in 1962, Mrs. Standridge made her residence in Dehesa, just east of El Cajon, Calif.
She met and became partners with Paul Megne, a contractor with whom she started and ran two successful construction companies for 15 years in San Diego.
Mrs. Standridge was able to find love for a second time until Paul’s passing after a lengthy illness.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Cleo; her infant daughter, Nina Carlene; brother, Ulrich Peairson; half-sister, Claudia; stepmother, Anna Sonderegger; father, Edbert Peairson; and her partner, Paul Megne.
She is survived by her daughter, Darlene S. Younker (Dean) of Payson; granddaughters, Elayne Dean Neal (Doug) of Duluth, Ga. and Laura Jean Case of Payson; great-granddaughter, Stacy Darlene Murphy (Andy) of Mesa; and great-great grandson, Trevor Dean Murphy of Mesa. Also surviving are her brothers, Delbert Peairson of Crandall, Texas; Patrick Peairson (Janie) of Oklahoma City, Okla., David Peairson of Dallas, Texas and John Sonderegger of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and sisters, Jo Ann Holderman of El Cajon, Calif. and Ruth Murphy of Oklahoma City, Okla.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Standridge was vivacious and sassy and frequently opinionated, but she loved her family and friends fiercely. She was truly the matriarch of her family and will be missed by all who knew her. It is comforting to know she rests in the arms of Jesus.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 12 at Mountain Bible Church in Payson, and at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19 at East County Mortuary in El Cajon, Calif.
