Virgil Laverne Orth
July 22, 1921 - December 27, 2012
Virgil Laverne Orth was born July 22, 1921 in Leana, Kan.
Mr. Orth married his wife of 68 years, Irene, on Sept. 29, 1944 in Seattle, Wash.
He served in the Naval Air Corps during World War II and in the Aleutian Islands while doing bombing runs to Japan.
After the service he worked for Kansas State Artificial Dairy Breeding Service and part-time as a bookkeeper at night for an oil company. He then moved the family to Phoenix in 1959 and worked for American Breeding Service until he went to work for Osborn School District and ended up at Solono School, for a total of 17 years, where he met a very dear friend, Brad Swanson, principal and many teacher friends that helped keep him occupied with handyman work.
He retired in 1983 and shortly after moved to East Verde Estates near Payson with Irene and lived there for about 22 years. While in Payson they met and made many new friends where they lived and square danced with the Zane Grey Twirlers. He was a member of the American Legion in Payson.
Due to health problems, they moved to Peoria, Ariz. to live at the Montecito, a retirement community.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; two sons, Albert and Dennis; Albert’s wife, Lily; one sister, Mildred; and many nieces and nephews.
Irene cared for him for many years. Hospice of the Valley, with loving care, came in to help Irene care for him, and was instrumental in his passing away peacefully on Dec. 27, 2012.
