Ronald Warren Armstead
1944 - 2013
Ronald Warren Armstead died June 17, 2013 at his home in Payson, after battling lung cancer for more than two years. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his death.
He was born Aug. 22, 1944 in St. James, Minn. and raised on a farm in Madelia, Minn. until the eighth grade, when his family moved to Arizona.
On July 27, 1963 he married the love of his life, Dolly Ann Pruett in Mesa.
Mr. Armstead joined the Air Force in 1963 and the couple moved to California where he spent four years serving his country. He then worked for Lockheed and in 1971 moved to Payson, where he spent the remaining days of his life.
He was self-employed for a time and then started with the Town of Payson Street Department and retired as street supervisor in 2006.
He always loved fishing, hunting and trapping around the Rim Country and also was a huge NASCAR fan.
He is survived by his wife, Dolly Ann Armstead; sons, Michael Ronald Armstead of Payson and Timothy James Armstead of Mesa; daughter, Misty Dolly Ann Armstead (Jason) of Arlington, Wash.; brothers, Gary Armstead (Sandy) of California and Danny Armstead of Payson; father, Warren Armstead of Payson; eight grandchildren, Tabitha, Austin, Aimee, Mackenzie, Maya, Alison, Trinity and Taylor; and several nieces and nephews.
“We all adored him and cherished his love for each and every one of us. He is peacefully resting with our Heavenly Father. Psalms 23,” writes the family.
An open house to celebrate Mr. Armstead’s life will be held from noon to 5 p.m., Sunday, June 23 at the Armstead residence, 211 W. Saddle Lane in Payson.
