Henry Edward Henkel

Henry Edward Henkel, 97, died Feb. 5, 2014 in Payson, Ariz.
Henry was born to Martin and Elizabeth Henkel in Dubuque, Iowa Oct. 25, 1916. At an early age, Henry moved with his family to Escanaba, Mich. He grew up there and became a mechanic for Greyhound Bus Lines. Henry enlisted in the Army Air Corps at the beginning of World War II. He became an aviation mechanic and served the Allied Mission in North Africa and Corsica until the conclusion of the war.
Henry returned to Michigan, this time to Lansing. He married his wife, Helen Henkel in 1947 and they had four children. Henry used the mechanical experience he gained in the military to start his own auto repair shop, which he successfully maintained for more than 40 years until retirement.
Henry and Helen divorced in 2002 and Henry relocated to Payson, Ariz. He met Margaret Darnall in Payson and they married in September 2007. Henry is survived by his present wife, Margaret, and by adopted daughter Rosiland McNaughton of Lockport, N.Y., daughters Wendy Hart of Michigan and Lou Anne Weese of Traverse City, Mich., and by sons Dale of Strongsville, Ohio and Dennis of Tempe, Ariz.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12 at the Chapel at Majestic Rim, 310 E. Tyler Parkway, Payson.
