Fred Leonard Hoke
1940 - 2014
Fred Hoke, born May 21, 1940, passed away at his home in Apache Junction Feb. 12, 2014 with his family by his side.
Fred was a long-time resident of Payson before moving to the Valley and was the very first lane mechanic at Payson Bowl and worked there for 10 years. He was one of many men and women in a book published by Bourque in 2010 entitled “Short Stories of America’s Under Aged Warriors” for joining the Army at age 15. At 18 he switched to the Navy where he served in Vietnam. After his military career he did civil service for the Air Force for 14 years before moving to Payson.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Mary Hoke; two daughters, Leslie Rodrigues and Mary Hoke; four sons, Greg, Mark, Wynn and Jason Hoke; three grandchildren, Tori Hoke, Timothy Hoke and Lacee Bradford and their families; as well as three great-grandchildren and many extended family members.
Services will be March 27 at the National Cemetery in Phoenix.
