Recipients of Social Security benefits will see a 5.8 percent increase in their payments starting in January. The average retired worker will receive $1,153 per month in Social Security benefits in 2009, up from $1,090 in 2008.

Members of the Payson Birders invite anyone interested in learning more about bird watching to join them at their meetings. The next one will be at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 7 at the Payson Public Library community room. The guest speaker will be George Wall, who will be discussing his two-week “hard core” bird watching in Australia.
David Brooks of Brahm’s Electric was among the workers who were called to the Payson Senior Center Monday morning after a water pipe broke and flooded the kitchen and dining area. The water line break caused parts of the ceiling to fall down, and flooded the center with water.
