Jim Muhr was awarded two Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and a Bronze Star for his service in the Vietnam War. Today, Muhr keeps the medals hidden away on a shelf in a closet. “I should be proud of these things, and I am, but I am not ready to display them,” he said.
The balloon hung in mid-air, or so it seemed to Blaine Sahlecen), as he screamed with delight as he bounced around the parking lot in Rumsey Park where the Trunk-or-Treat event took place.
With a face like that, this nurse could scare the sickness right out of you, especially during the Trunk-or-Treat event conducted on Halloween at Rumsey Park by the Payson Parks and Recreation Department. Becky Hatfield, an employee at Payson Regional Medical Center, was the person behind the mask.
A Home Party plan day will be held Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway. Persons who have Home Parties and would like to display their merchandise are welcome to do so. The event also is open to those who want to do some early holiday shopping. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call (928) 472-9290.
Rachel Davis and Tianni Lawrence shake hands with Carl Backas after his presentation Thursday during the Veterans Day program at Pine Strawberry School. Backas told the students about his experiences working at U.S. prisoner of war camps during World War II. Backas spoke fluent German, and helped prisoners transition into the POW camps. Pine Strawberry School students honored Backas and other veterans in attendance at the program. See a story about other Veterans Day events on page 7A.
Woods Canyon Lake still harbors hungry rainbow trout, survivors from the summer stocking. Moreover, brown trout are just finishing their spawn on the creek at the north end of the lake. Fishing is termed “fair to good.” Although the Rim lakes are no longer being stocked, fall still provides lots of good fishing opportunities.
