While planning the inaugural Rim Country Quilt Roundup in 2005, Maureen Pastika of Pine, Ariz. had an idea. After three years of deliberation, she decided to take her idea and run with it and she started the Kidz Quiltz program. Pastika’s plan: take painters’ drop cloths, cut them to a workable size, and have children paint quilts on them. The Home Depot of Payson agreed to donate materials. The “blank canvases” were taken to SonShine Club and Payson Community Kids. The work by the children will be on display at the Rim Country Quilt Roundup, Friday through Sunday, Nov. 14-16 at Mazatzal Hotel and Casino Exhibition Hall.
