The Payson Community Presbyterian Church is known as the “birthplace of jazz in Payson,” and the church has become the town’s gathering place to socialize and hear quality live music of all kinds performed. An aging piano is currently being used, but the incurable problems affecting the piano’s tuning and tonal character are now very obvious. The church wishes to acquire a new piano that will provide the qualities needed for continued professional performances. A special piano fund has been established to acquire a piano. Well-known artist Jay Kemp is donating a painting worth $1,200 for a raffle in order to raise additional funds for the piano. Tickets are $20 each (three for $50), and can be bought at the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce and at the church at 800 W. Main St. The raffle is Feb. 8.
