Klayton Haught, a Town of Payson employee, got the job of going up and down light poles fastening the seasonal decorations along Highway 87 and Highway 260.
There were aisles and aisles of quilts for one to savor during the fourth annual Quilt Roundup, conducted Nov. 13 through Nov. 16 at Mazatzal Hotel and Casino’s exhibit hall. After only four years, the annual Rim Country Quilt Roundup is gaining national attention and visitors. This year’s four-day event had more classes, vendors and award-winning quilts and quilters. Alice Waldman and Lorraine Bright (bottom left photo) read the information sheet attached to this quilt as they take in all the different activities at the quilt roundup. Drug addicts in Payson High School’s play ended up in the “veggie bin” at a chemical abuse hospital wing for children.

Julia Randall Elementary School was one of 10 schools statewide honored by Arizona’s state schools Superintendent Tom Horne for Healthy Bodies/Healthy Minds.

These two adult bald eagles were spotted at a Rim Country lake. Some 56 bald eagles built nests this year. They produced 57 young, up 7 percent from last year.

Payson Concrete and Materials held its annual October special to raise money and food donations for local organizations. Customers making donations were given a discount on concrete. Donations were split among the Time Out Shelter, Payson Humane Society, Special Olympics, St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank and the Rim Country Optimist Christmas Food Basket Program. Donated food was given to the Optimist Club’s Food Basket Program.
