Working with a "canvas" created by nature, artist Dixie Guldner
uses the imperfections of gourds as the foundation of the images
she creates. First she washes a gourd with warm water, and then
scrubs it clean with a copper scratch pad. The gourd's inside is
scraped clean. The design is drawn in pencil then etched with a wood
burning tool and leather dye.
