Once again the Payson High School building trades class has constructed a special piece of furniture for the auction at the annual Pioneer Dinner. The gun cabinet will be auctioned at the dinner, which starts at 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Tonto Apache Tribal Recreation Center (gym). On hand to accept the gift was one of the dinner organizers Ronnie McDaniel, at left. Making the presentation were, Landen Johnson, Thad Hauger, Jake Staab and Richard Alvarez, building trades class instructor. Helping with the project, but not pictured were Schaffer Keith and Blake Iverson. Funds raised by the auction, the dinner and its various activities are contributed to such youth-oriented projects as FFA and 4H.

Adele Shreckengost (1929-2008) Adele A. Shreckengost, born April 4, 1929 in Crown Point, Ind. died Sept. 24, 2008 in Payson, AZ. Mrs. Shreckengost was married on Dec. 31, 1950 to Donald E. Shreckengost, who lives in Payson. She attended Butler University and Valparaiso University and she worked as a medical secretary and business manager for 40 yrs. Mrs. Shreckengost is survived by her husband, Donald; brother, Kenneth Homeir of Indiana; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. Mrs. Shreckengost was a member of Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church, 507 W. Wade Lane, Payson, Ariz., where there will be a memorial service at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 29, 2008.
John Gould takes a few minutes from his beer brewing activities to pose with his favorite outside guard and handy beer bottle holder.
Gould named his home-brewing operation the East Verde Brewing Company. His label was designed by his wife, Peggy, and features a photo of the East Verde, which Gould took, and a humorous portrait of himself when his hair was longer.
John Gould opens his refrigerator to display some of the beer that is chilling. Gould moved things out of a storage room and is turning it into his home brewery. It has the refrigerator, a small sink with running water, a workstation, his laptop computer and shelves for storage.
