Learn the essentials of mountain biking with an urban mountain bike ride hosted by the Payson Parks and Recreation Department. The free program is planned from 10 a.m. to noon, Sunday, Oct. 12, but registration is currently taking place at the parks office in Green Valley Park. The program includes a trail ride on paved and nonpaved routes in town. Learn bike set-up, maintenance and repair, and specific mountain biking techniques. A mountain bike and helmet are required. Patricia Ross and her grandson, Aiden Tuttle, have a quiet morning fishing on the dock on the large lake at Green Valley Park and catch a fish. This was Aiden’s first fishing experience. Lucky guy.

After fracturing his hip in March, Wayne Gorry returned to mountain bike racing Sept. 20 in the Payson Stampede. Gorry won his age group and the overall championship.

Jazz favorites Judy Roberts and Renee Patrick were joined by an all-star musical group Sept. 21 in a special performance to raise funds for a new piano at Community Presbyterian Church. The church, which is a popular venue for visiting and local musicians, was packed with an audience estimated at more than 175 people. More than $5,500 was raised toward the $8,800 piano fund goal.
