The Black Stallion Literacy Program combines books about horses and hands-on experiences with horses to encourage children to read.

The Literacy project was conceived in 1999 in Florida by Tim Farley, Walter Farley’s son. He said his purpose in founding the project was to encourage children to read using a simple and unique approach. Walter Farley is the author of “Little Black, a Pony” and “Little Black Goes to the Circus.” See additional photos on page 6A.

Phyllis Mullen Ballard made a surprise visit to the ladies pool games Tuesday evening. She was a regular player for the Double D gals when she lived in the Village. Phyllis lived in the Village for many years before moving to Oklahoma.
