Students in Kristi Kisler’s seventh-grade class had to review 20 political cartoons and decide what the cartoons were trying to convey. The students then compared notes and presented their views to the class. Students Miriam Garner, Trevor Clawson, Adam Shannon, Anthony Tantimonaco and Tiara Reidy got together to compare thoughts.
Working their way through several political cartoons Monday morning were Jayme Chilson, Ali Tenney, Rochell Schmidt and Zoe Wright during Kristi Kisler’s seventh-grade gifted language arts and social studies class.
The Payson Pro Rodeo Committee is sponsoring a dance at the Oxbow Saloon on Historic Main Street Friday, Aug. 14 and Saturday, Aug. 15. Doors open at 6 p.m., the music starts at 8 p.m. There is a $5 cover charge and proceeds from the dance will benefit the Pro Rodeo Committee Scholarship Fund. Staff Sgt. Michael Stansbarger (center), his wife Nisa, son Zachary and Master Sgt. David Luckett spent the Fourth of July weekend in Green Valley Park, two days before Stansbarger would die.

The Rim Fire grew in size, from 1,500 acres Thursday to 2,500 Monday, but fire crews say they have the blaze 85 percent contained and it remains far from any structures.
Wednesday was not a good day for Postal Service carrier Larry Lashbrook. As he was putting mail in boxes on North Pioneer Trail, his vehicle was struck and sent clear across the road into a drainage ditch.
Sunday’s jazz concert ended in a standing ovation for the musicians. Featured musicians were Delphine Cortez, vocals; Joel Robin, piano; Tony Vacca, sax and flute; and Gerry Reynolds, drums. The next concert will be Sunday, Sept. 13 and will feature a Rim Country favorite, Renee Patrick.

He may have worn a Blue Ridge jersey for most of his high school football career, but Payson can still lay claim to Steel Armstrong, whose family has been in the area for several decades. Armstrong will soon be playing football at South Dakota University for former Payson High football coaches Josh Anderson and Kenny Hayes.
