. Residents watched the town’s new, official Christmas Tree lighting at Green Valley Park just after the parade ended. Santa had the honors of flipping the switch for the lights.

Payson P.A.Y.S. pulled out all the stops with their float. There was a dancing Santa, lights galore and a dozen smiling faces on board.
Clowns Fizzle and Flambe of the Pine-Strawberry Fire Department joy ride through the parade bringing smiles and laughter to everyone who saw them driving a much smaller version of a fire truck.
More than 230 parents and students attended a spaghetti dinner last week at Rim Country Middle School. The purpose of the event was to get parents more involved in their children’s education.
Students watch in awe as Geo-Kidz instructor Michael Rose gives the biography of a shellfish that died 300 million years ago, but whose shell was preserved in layers of limestone at the base of the Mogollon Rim near Christopher Creek.
Michael Rose shows students a 300-million-year-old fossil dug out of a layer of limestone off Highway 260 near Kohl’s Ranch. The outing was part of the Geo-Kidz program sponsored by the Payson Parks and Recreation Department.
Enjoy the sounds of the season with the Payson Choral Society on Dec. 12 at their Joyous Noel concert. Performances are at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Payson High School auditorium. Admission is $8.
Frank and Elicia Morigeau were among the victims of the winter storm that passed through Rim Country Monday night and early Tuesday morning. The storm’s high winds uprooted a large pine tree and sent it crashing into their three vehicles.
Last week, the Foxworth-Galbraith parking lot was empty after the lumber company announced it was closing up shop in Payson and Lakeside. Sales to general customers ended Nov. 4, and contractor sales will end this Friday.

The Payson High School basketball teams were scheduled to return to action Monday evening, Dec. 7 in Holbrook, but those games were postponed due to a snowstorm that was expected to make Rim Country roads unsafe for travel. The games have been rescheduled for Jan. 2. The Dec. 8 games in Show Low were in limbo at press time.
Andrew Curiel shows fierce concentration as he goes up for a shot at a recent home game for the Payson Longhorns. The team won last weekend’s Cake Chevrolet Shoot Out in Winslow.
