Pine residents have a good chance to experience a White Christmas this year as more than four inches of heavy snow fell in the area early this week. Warmer weather is expected to melt much of the snow in the near future.

The Lady Longhorns host 16 teams from around the state in the annual Holiday Hoops Tournament at Wilson Dome and the old PHS gym Dec. 28 and Dec. 29.

One excellent teen survival skill is to learn to cook your own meals and, on this occasion, 15 teens learned how to make chicken fajitas. They were then treated to several “exotic foods” like anchovies, liverwurst, lamb, smoked oysters, sardines, limburger cheese and several other unusual foods.Those students who tasted everything won a limousine ride to Scoops Ice cream Parlor for dessert.

When Christmas is over, both the county and the Town of Payson are providing free disposal services for Christmas trees. Trees, free of decorations, will be accepted at the Buckhead Mesa Landfill from Dec. 26 through Jan. 9. Trees may be brought to the Payson Event Center for recycling from Dec. 26 through Jan. 31.

Nick Fitch was recently named Firefighter of the Year by members of the Christopher Kohl’s Fire Department. He has been a very positive role model for all at CKFD since being hired one year ago.
