Workers from the Tonto Creek Fish Hatchery stock the East Verde twice a week all summer (above, file photo), but local anglers have formed a group to push for year-round stocking and perhaps the introduction of native trout species.

A hardy band of about 25 local flycasters has started a Rim Country chapter of Trout Unlimited, the pre-eminent national organization dedicated to protecting the streams.
