Mariah Hintze, 5 years old, and her friend Maddie Ashby, 3 years old, enjoyed the warming sunshine Thursday by playing on the swings at Rumsey Park. Temperatures Thursday reached nearly 60 degrees.

Using an inclimeter to check the slope of a hill is Wayne Gorry. Mountain bike enthusiasts met at Tiny’s Restaurant to listen to Kelly and Collins Bishop of the International Mountain Bike Association to learn about building sustainable trails in the Payson area. After the presentations, classes were conducted in Rumsey Park to assess the building of a bike trail.

A group of 25 Rim Country residents have formed a cooperative to order items in bulk. Members had been picking up the ordered items in Cottonwood, but now have a enough members to have the items delivered to Payson. Organizers said it was a way to get natural products in bulk. There is no cost to join the cooperative and anyone interested can call Jodee Smith at (928) 476-3561 or Lynn Johns at (928) 474-0422.

The class will be represented at the March 7 A Taste of Rim Country by junior, Marissa Herrera and senior Chelsea Iverson.
The Payson High School culinary arts class provides an opportunity for students like Nicole DePugh and Josh Graham to become familiar with both cooking in the home and on a commercial basis. The program classroom is licensed as a restaurant and the students do catering projects around the community.

Chelsea Iverson grew up around the Beeline Cafe, which is owned by her parents, but said she didn’t have any cooking secrets to share with her classmates.
