Tonto Natural Bridge State Park went from not being considered for closure to being closed with just a few days’ notice. The park will be indefinitely closed on Thursday.

Payson Elementary School is holding its 10th Annual Spaghetti Dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 26 at PES, 500 E. Rancho Road. The cost is $6 for adults, $4 for children and $20 for families of 5. Tickets are available at the PES office, from PES students or in the Swiss Village at Paper Metal Scrappers. Chef Gerardo Moceri will be preparing decadent Italian cuisine for the event, including salad, pizza and spaghetti. Pepsi products are included in the ticket price. The PES Student Council will be offering dessert choices as an additional fund-raiser.
Junior Tinnin, Lucinda Flores, Shawna Davis and Teri Nanty recently completed the Mazatzal Hotel and Casino’s Tribal Professional Development Program. The six-month program was designed to develop leadership, business and life skills.
Rebekah Rice, 5, has sold nearly 800 boxes, Breana Moores, 6, sold 500 and Amanda Branch, 5, more than 600, all in a month’s time. Their Daisy troop has sold 2,600 boxes of Girl Scout cookies.
Students in the Academic Center for Enrichment (ACE) lab, work at their own pace in math, social studies, language arts or science.
Zoe Wright awaits a teacher’s help in the ACE lab. Although the class is computer-based, students also study with other methods.
Claudia Mare performed “Hopelessly Devoted” for those in attendance. First place was won by Troy Wayland who performed “I’m a Barbie Girl” during Act 1, and third place went to Seth Scot for his performance of “Touch Me.”
During Act 2 “I’m a Barbie Girl” was performed by Michell Daniels, Dakoda Wholly, Jacquelyn Osterbad and Lucy Schouten. They won second place for their efforts.
The first Longhorn Theatre Company Lip Sync competition attracted a large crowd and contestants Saturday night. Brad Johnson, Seth Scott, Zane Wules, Robert Goodwin, Joey Sprinkle and Jared Carpiono performed “Men in Tights” to the delight of the crowd.
The warming weather Saturday beckoned these two anglers to Green Valley Park lake where they did a little backyard fishing. The park and its lake and other amenities are one of the Rim Country’s hidden jewels in any kind of weather. Its resident and visiting birds are entertaining to watch and you can even see a bald eagle watching for dead fish along the shore.

Senior point guard Shane Keith (52) engineered the Longhorn offense in Payson’s 74-46 state opening-round win over Sedona.
