The Elks Children’s Shopping Spree received a boost from a fun-filled afternoon and evening at the lodge. Music, food, games, raffles and more helped raise money not only for the event where members of the Elks take youngsters in the area on a Christmas shopping spree, but also assisted the Payson Community Kids program and the Payson Supply Line project. Chris Schwanbeck of the band Ninth Crisis was one of the performers presenting music at the Elks event. PCK provides after-school care and more for the area’s less fortunate and at risk youngsters, while the Supply Line project collects a wide variety of goods to send to members of the military in Iraq and Afghanistan – items not available to them through the military.
Physical Education courses offered at GCC this fall include Pilates, Stretching and Flexibility, Yoga, Body Conditioning, Bowling, Circuit Training, Physioball, Swimming and ZUMBA®.
The Mormon Pioneer Celebration July 25 at Rumsey Park included plenty of old-fashioned fun — like an egg toss — along with great food. It was followed by a dance at the Payson LDS Chapel with music provided by DJ Craig.
Entertainment for the annual National Night Out celebration will include local favorites John Carpino and the Hot Cappuccinos who will perform a variety of classic rock, country/rock, Motown, reggae and originals. The band will take the stage at Green Valley Park at 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 1. The Hot Cappuccinos are David Brooks on bass and vocals; Jeff Smith on drums and vocals; Lu Carpino on keyboards, percussion and vocals; and John Carpino on guitar, keyboard and vocals. Winners at the fifth annual Ted Meredith Memorial Roping held July 18 and 19 show off some of the buckles and spurs they received for their efforts in the annual cowboy and cowgirl showdown.

Club Rim volleyball teams recently wrapped up another Arizona Region volleyball season with stellar showings. The 16-year-olds team finished sixth in the state. The Pink 14-year-olds team was 24th and the black 14-year-olds team took 40th. The 12-year-olds were 34th. Club Rim coach Donna Moore called the season the most successful in the history of the program.
