The recent Sunday jazz concert contained music from American composers in celebration of Flag Day. Many of the musicians were among the Rim Country’s best jazz artists. Area musicians were Paul Penning (piano), John Shevlin (piano) and Gerry Reynolds (drums). Vocalist Jennifer Baltz sang two songs. Valley musicians were Dave Grale (bass), Dave Ihlenfeld (tuba and piano) and Ken Taylor (trumpet and flugelhorn).
Realtors with Prudential Arizona Properties collected 35 bags of food for the St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank in June.
John Nelson, deputy county manager, and Monique Usher, administrative clerk, and other representatives from Gila County visited the Payson Senior Center last week and hooked up a Wii system in the dining room for members to enjoy. The money for the system and the assorted games software came from District One Gila County Supervisor Tommie Martin’s constituency services discretionary funds. Similar systems were given to Payson Care Center and the Time Out Shelter.
Beaver Valley and Whispering Pines fire departments train together to enhance joint response capability

A group of 12 hikers with Dusty Miller, second front right, as their leader, began their trek on the Monument Loop Trail early Saturday, June 20. The trail is just 3.3 miles down Granite Dells Road and winds through a creek bottom for three miles on relatively easy terrain, with views of Monument Peak and the Mogollon Rim.

Dr. Olivia Morris checks a possible injury of a Payson High School football player. Dr. Morris recently completed a USA Olympic Volunteer Team Physicians program at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
