Globe Hotshot firefighter Aaron Bechdolt surveys the leading edge of the Dripping Springs Fire on Wednesday. More than 225 firefighters kept the 43-acre fire away from Pine, as it burned up Pine Canyon to the top of the Rim, where slurry bombers and helicopters stopped it.

The fire season got off to a quick and scary start this week, with a 43-acre blaze above Pine that filled the sky with billows of smoke, burning in the already dangerously dry brush and dead wood covering the slopes above town.
