Carol Steyaert and Albert Goldman cut a rug at Down the Street Gallery during First Friday festivities Nov. 6. The monthly event provides Rim Country residents and visitors an opportunity to enjoy the work of local artists, like Goldman, music, food, fun and special deals. The event is presented by the Main Street Merchants Guild and the Payson Regional Economic Development Corporation the first Friday of each month from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Chili lovers of the Rim Country are invited to the Humane Society of Central Arizona’s 13th Annual Chili Supper Tuesday, Nov. 10. The chili supper is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Payson Elks Lodge at the corner of Beeline Highway and Airport Road. For just $7 for adults and $4 for children under 12, enjoy a tasty meal of chili, macaroni and cheese, salad, rolls and homemade cupcakes. Along with the great eats, participants can take a chance or two on the 50/50 or U-Pic raffles, or bid on the beautiful silent auction baskets with many terrific items donated by the generous businesses and individuals in the area. Raegan Ashby closes her eyes and inhales quickly as she gets a nasal spritz into her left nostril. The nasal injection is an alternate method to the usual needle injection. Both nasal passages receive a quick spritz of solution. An H1N1 vaccination clinic was held Saturday at Julia Randall Elementary School to help those thought to be most vulnerable to the flu.
Eric Vohs holds his sack open as Carter Buckner drops a can of food into it. The Saturday, Nov. 7, goal was 300 cans of food. Roughly 25 high school students knocked on doors around town and asked for donations of cans of food.

The Longhorn Cross Country team came to the end of its 2009 trail at the Cave Creek Golf Course this weekend. In a field of 17 teams, the girls finished in ninth place, while the boys were in 15th place when all was said and done. Participating for the boys were Jamie Wadington (top); Tanner Hodges (above left); Aman Sharma, left and Michael Scott, right (above right). Chuck Yale, who has assisted coach Jonathan Ball all season, said the team probably had its best race last week at Alchesay. He said they ran that race very hard to get to the state contest this weekend
Michelle Daniels whacks the ball with tremendous force over the net, but the Sedona Ladies were well prepared, returned many of the hard hit volleys and scored consistently.
Rylee Halenar receives the ball and keeps her eyes on where the ball will be placed as her teammates ready themselves for a long volley. The Sedona ladies won the match in three sets.
