The annual Rim Country Quilt Roundup takes place this weekend at the Mazatzal Hotel and Casino Event Center. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $3 or $2 plus a can of food for local food banks.
Eileen and Bill Lawson are fixtures at Payson High School football games. The two keep the statistics for the team. Eileen has helped Bill for the last three years, but Bill has kept the information for the team for 30 years.

Owner Jo Ann Johnston recently moved her consignment store to a larger space on Main Street. The new space features jewelry, clothing, home wares and Christmas decorations.
Roger May and his family brought their Mayday Retrievers to Payson on Oct. 1, moving here from Snowflake where they managed a pheasant reserve. May has worked with dogs for more than 20 years. He has trained and competed with hounds, pointers and retrievers over the years and says the retrievers are the better all-around dogs.
Solo recently earned American Kennel Club National Masters Champion honors at a competition in Texas.
Roger May handles obedience training for all breeds of dogs, but the field trial, hunt and gun training is generally restricted to golden retrievers and Labs. Among the residents in the kennels at Mayday Retrievers in Oxbow Estates are, from left, Trooper, Tyra, Solo and Dust. All have brought home plenty of awards for the kennel and their individual owners.
The Chiricahua Leopard Frog is found in a number of streams, ponds and even stock tanks below the Rim — like Fossil Creek and Ellison Creek.
Ye Olde Library Gift Shoppe will be open every Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. throughout November.
Toy and canned food drives will be part of Thanksgiving Day at Creekside Restaurant, as well as Christopher Creek’s annual “running of the carts” event.
Piazza’s professional-grade brewing setup consists of 30-gallon steel tanks to heat water and turn grain starches into sugars. A mounted calculator and notepad rest ready for beer brewing’s many calculations.
Tom Piazza is president of the Rim Country Homebrewers. The club started a year ago and already has roughly 95 members. Brewmaster Piazza stands in his storage room, which holds various grains and brewing supplies. One batch of beer can require 50 to 70 pounds of grain.
