Volunteer Peter Rotherbach helps install a drip irrigation system at the Beeline roundabout Monday morning. Volunteers are making improvements to the roundabout, at the intersection of Highway 87 and Tyler Parkway, with the installation of 900 plants and 900 sprinkler heads to keep the new vegetation healthy. The ultimate goal is to place a statue of an elk in the roundabout, but funds are still needed, according to Bob Hibbert, one of the many volunteers on the project. Look for a story and additional photographs in Friday’s newspaper.
Rim Country residents can enjoy a free Thanksgiving dinner at both the Payson Elks and Greater Payson Moose lodges Thursday, Nov. 26. The Elks Lodge, located at 1206 N. Beeline Highway, will have three seatings: noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. The Moose Lodge, on East Highway 260 in Star Valley, will have dinner at 1 p.m. While both dinners are free, donations will be accepted to help cover the costs.
Kevin Brooks delivered a sobering message to PHS students Wednesday during STUGO’s Project Ignition Day. Brooks paralyzed himself and killed a friend in a drunk driving accident.
During STUGO’s Project Ignition Day, students learned what it would be like to drive drunk by wearing goggles that simulated being impaired.
Since coming to the U.S. in July, Finland foreign exchange student Eveliina Salminen has played volleyball and soccer at Payson High School.
Katie Visco stretches out after a five-hour run through the Rim Country Thursday. Visco is running 3,200 miles cross-country to promote others to follow their dreams in life.
The Lady Longhorns varsity basketball team will travel to Winslow today, Nov. 24, to take on the Bulldogs. The game will be the first with head coach Kelly Krieg at the helm.
The Payson Longhorns basketball squad will sport an entirely new look this season, but first-year head coach Jared Swanson assures fans, “You can expect that we will put a team on the floor that will give 100 percent at all times.”
Turbines that are part of the Dry Lake Wind Power Project, Arizona’s first commercial-scale wind farm, stand on a windswept plain south of Holbrook in northeastern Arizona.
Diane Haugen, of Out of my Gourd, holds up an antler artwork just completed by Wayne Hubble at the Mazatzal Arts and Craft Extravaganza two-day show. This is the first year for a two-day art and craft show.

Vic McCraw chose a subject close to home. He spun a tale about the history of law enforcement and the compassion that DPS officers need to show in a time of stress and crisis surrounding the people he and fellow officers encounter on a daily basis. McCraw has been invited to the Pine Tellabration to present his natural skill at storytelling for the last four years.
Liz Warren captivated the standing room only crowd with a tale about the love of the land and the beauty of an Arizona sky in mid-July. Warren is a storyteller, writer and teacher. Some of her accomplishments include a Parents Choice Recommended Award in 2004 and a Storytelling World Award in 2006.
