The Rim Country Rotary Club-Payson honored Sean Ford as the Student of the Month for October. Sean is a junior at Payson High School and he was selected by Joe Parone to represent the business and marketing program. Sean’s interests include football, hunting, swimming and family. His future goal is to open his own sporting goods store in Payson. Earl Wellington Hazell Jr. gave a stirring performance of “I Got Plenty O Nuttin’, from the musical “Porgy and Bess” as the audience absorbed the wide scope and variation of tunes during the Best of Broadway performance. The concert benefited the Payson Institute of Learning.
Francisco Renteria’s booming voice echoed loudly through the PHS auditorium as he wowed the full house with his renditions of songs from Broadway shows.

New Hope Equine Rescue is offering Christmas wreaths to support rescued horses. Orders will be taken starting Oct. 31 through Nov. 15. Orders will also be taken from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 31 in front of Bashas’. Free delivery will be made Dec. 7-11. Each wreath, made with fresh evergreen boughs from Minnesota, comes with a hanger and, for each purchase, a tree will be planted. Using the theme “Pirates and Bounty of the Sea,” the Gracie Lee Haught Children’s Memorial Fund Costume Party brought in a host of pirates, ne’er-do-wells, and fine guests this year at the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino. Here, a pirate attempts to cajole another sucker, er, costumed participant out of their hard-earned doubloons, also known as a charitable donation.

Riding in the early morning on the first “A” trail of the day, these two riders round a corner and are challenged by the sun, the dust and the unknown. The Mogollon Rendezvous started and ended at the Payson Elks Lodge — sending riders over hills and valleys near Gisela, Punkin Center and up to Young before returning to Payson.
This group of riders scattered around the Payson Elks Lodge Saturday before the start of the Mogollon Rendezvous, an Arizona Trail Riders dual sport event featuring on- and off-road riding.
And the winners are; Second Place, Nick Schneider, Third Place, LeRoy Watson, and First Place, Gary Rains.
