Jim Estess paid Waste Matters to place trash bins at key sites during the holiday weekend, which collected 1.36 tons of litter that would have otherwise trashed the forest. The company charged Estess a minimal fee.

Don’t miss the annual Demolition Derby, which closes out the Northern Gila County Fair. The action takes place Sunday, Sept. 13 at Payson Event Center, just south of town on the west side of Highway 87. Gates open at 11:30 a.m., and the contest starts at 1:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for ages 12 and over, $5 for ages 5-11, children age 4 and under are admitted free.
